News Flash #09 (December 10th, 2020)

1. Thank you for your trust in us! A first conclusion.

Because of the social elections of 17th & 18th of November, the ACLVB KU Leuven team asked you for a strong mandate.

Well, our team definitely received your trust; unnecessary to say how much we value this, and how it motivates us as fraction ánd for individually for each and every one of us as colleague.

Thanks to all those who pushed us ahead!

Plus it was very unique that so many colleagues from various levels in our institution wanted to candidate for our list (for the Works council Leuven-Brussels-Antwerp-Limburg, the maximum number of candidates ran for election, namely 30 colleagues; also, for the Workplace safety committee we saw the maximum number, namely 42 colleagues).

Gladly, we list some numbers, that offers more insight in the entire results:

For the socalled “technical company unit” Leuven-Brussels-Antwerp-Limburg:

  • 1472 votes (out of a total of 2620 valid votes) were cast for the ACLVB list or its candidates, which amounts to 56.2 % !
  • In the electoral college “Executive Works council” 342 votes (out of a total of 817 valid votes) were cast for the ACLVB list or for its single candidate, which amounts to 41.8 %;
  • In the electoral college “Work safety committee” 1718 votes (out of a total of 3448 valid votes) were trusted to the ACLVB list or for its candidates, which amounts to 49.8 % .

For the socalled “technical company unit” East- and West-Flanders:

  • In the electoral college “Employees Works council” 22.5% of the 209 valid cast votes trusted to the ACLVB list and its single candidate;
  • In the electoral college “Work safety committee”  13.7 % of the 307 valid cast votes were trusted to the ACLVB list and its single candidate.

Expressed in seats, the ACLVB obtains a majority of 13 seats out of the 23 appointed seats in the Works council Leuven-Brussels-Antwerp-Limburg: 9 out of 15 with the employees, 3 out of 7 with the executives, and the single appointed youth seat (personnel < 25 years).

In the Work safety committee, the ACLVB receives a majority of 12 seats out of the 22 appointed seats: 11 out of 21 zetels with the employees and executives, and the single appointed youth seat (personnel < 25 years).

In East- and West-Flanders, the ACLVB obtains a seat as well in the Works council as in the Work safety committee.

Another phenomenon that pleases us, is the high increase in the level of participation (or level of involvement / engagement) druing these elections:

  • Works council Leuven-Brussels-Antwerp-Limburg electoral college employees: 2782 participants on 7783 persons entitled to vote, or 35.7 %. In 2016 we saw only 24.7 % for the Works council Leuven-Brussels.
  • Works council Leuven-Brussels-Antwerp-Limburg electoral college executives: 882 participants on 3797 persons entitled to vote, or 23.2 %. In 2016 we noticed only 12.0 % for the Works council Leuven-Brussels.
  • Work safety committee Leuven-Brussels-Antwerp-Limburg: 3664 participants on 11580 persons entitled to vote, or 31.6 %. In 2016 we saw only 19.9 % for Work safety committee Leuven-Brussels.

In East- and West-Flanders, the participation levels remained more or less identical: +/- 37 % for employees Works council, +/- 34% for executives Works Council, and +/- 36 % for the Work safety committee.

We conclude that:

  1. A lot more colleagues than before regard the social discussions as an important issue, and therefore participate consciously in the social elections;
  2. A majority of them supports the ACLVB issues.

Would this signal be correctly understood? We surely hope to collaborate in a constructive manner together with our employer and the other social partners in a participative policy for the future. The following gives us certainly strong hopes!

2. “Groundbreaking employer 2021”?

Very recently, KU Leuven signed the charter Groundbreaking employer, together with more than 100 other companies. With this charter, our institution have stated the engagement to embrace the ‘humane hybrid working’, next to a smarter and greener mobility.

This engagement surely fits our strive for a new MORE FLEXIBLE working organization, as we explained in our news letter on 9th of November this year. A hybrid work form (combination telework / office work) forms an important part in this kind of organization. We are closely following the intentions and processes in this matter.

Of course, you can always contact / mail… us for any issues / experiences / suggestions; in these difficult times, and in the coming post corona times.

3. Meal vouchers

To facilitate the accelerated transgression to digital meal vouchers, an altered CAO Meal vouchers has to be signed by our fraction, together with the other partners. This will happen shortly; the engagement has already been decided. This way, the working method could be quickly implemented; a process our fraction has frequently asked for.  In the mean time, most of you will have received the meal voucher card (the Monizze company provides the distribution).

4. Good to know: Christmas baby or New Years’ wonder? Paternity leave for 15 and 20 days instead of 10!

From 1st of January 2021, the leave is extended from 10 to 15 days. This extension has been approved by a bill of 20th November 2020 by the Ministers’ Council. More explicitly, this means an employee father / co-parent has to right to 15 days of paternity leave, on condition the child has been born on or after 1st of January 2021. From 1st of January 2023, the leave is even extended to 20 days.

In any case, the ACLVB fraction wishes lots of luck to all current and future brand new parents!

Our next news flash will pop up in March 2021.

Collegial greetings,

Peter Maertens, fraction chairman ACLVB KU Leuven team

And also on behalf of the entire ACLVB KU Leuven fraction
